IBM NorthPole is a digital AI inference chip that departs from the traditional von Neumann architecture by placing memory directly among its compute cores, so weights and activations move only short distances instead of across a separate memory bus. The design trades general-purpose flexibility for very low latency and high energy efficiency on neural-network inference tasks such as image classification.
