What is Helion Polaris?

Polaris is a fusion prototype from Helion Energy that uses a field-reversed configuration to confine and rapidly compress a plasma made from deuterium and helium-3 fuel until it reaches fusion conditions. Because this fuel cycle produces fewer neutrons than conventional deuterium-tritium fusion, the design captures the resulting change in the plasma's own magnetic field directly as electricity, rather than needing to boil water into steam to spin a turbine.
